After Zomato, Swiggy too has announced cutdown in the staff. Citing the current unprecedented crisis and the effects of the long nation wide shutdown, online food delivery major Swiggy has removed 1100 employees on Moday. Zomato has already indicated that it is removing 13 per cent of its staff and asked them to look for jobs elsewhere.
Significantly, the news comes a day after the Government has announced its move to a phasewise opening of the economy. Swiggy management called this decision unfortunate and saddest. But it said the decision was inevitable. The hotel and restaurant business will take time to open and even after opening, the orders are likely to be very low in view of the security concerns and worries over food safety. There are also worries about the food delivery boys being viewed as corona spreaders.
