The agitation demanding a special state on the grounds of the dialect and culture of Telangana that was started in the late 70s was intensified in the late nineties and reached the peaks in the 2000s. After reaching the peaks, the state was bifurcated in 2014 along with Hyderabad. When the state was divided, several concerns were raised on the development of the new state Telangana.
Given the fact that Andhra Pradesh had a wide range of ports that helps in trade, experts were of the opinion that Telangana might face a lot of issues and it might take a lot of time for the state to develop.
However, Telangana has managed to develop at a rapid pace and record a high annual growth rate after the state was bifurcated from the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. Public policy think tank Niti Aayog in its new report had traced the development recorded by Telangana.
Niti Aayog said Telangana has been recording over 11 percent of annual growth rate from the financial year 2015 -16, the next year after the bifurcation of Telangana from the combined Andhra Pradesh. The think tank in its observation said that from 2015 -16, Telangana is seeing an annual growth rate of over 11 percent.
In the combined Andhra Pradesh, the Telangana region recorded an annual growth of less than nine percent. But the rate went up to more than 11 percent after the state was divided.
Niti Aayog also said Telangana is one of the states in the country that have been developing at a brisk speed. Telangana is in seventh place in terms of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). Industrial sector Pharma, Biotechnology, and Nanotechnology are the main contributors to the GSDP of Telangana. However, the sectors like textiles, leather, food processing, and minerals have also recorded good growth in the state.
Telangana Finance Minister Harish Rao had earlier said, Telangana had fared well in economic growth in the country compared to the other states. Over the last six years, Telangana had made good numbers in economic growth, Harish Rao said. Niti Aayog had also confirmed the same.
