Will Dalit Bandhu end up as a mirage for the TRS? Will it create more enemies than friends for the ruling TRS? Will it make life difficult for the TRS MLAs as only a handful of people per village will be benefited and the remaining would be left high and dry?
According to KCR's recent announcement , only 100 select Dalits per assembly constituency would be benefited by the Dalit Bandhu scheme. This means many others would be left in the lurch. They would not be in a position to get the benefit of the scheme. Also, the selection of the beneficiaries would be left to the local MLAs.
As a result, there is every possibility that those left out if the scheme would be angry and upset with the MLA and might not vote for him. At the same time, there could be allegations that the MLA has chosen only their near and dear. There is also some truth in these allegations. For instance, one of the beneficiaries of the Dalit Bandhu in Vikarabad is the some of the local market yard chairperson.
Another major problem is that one beneficiary is selected from three applicants. This would make two people angry. Already the government is being criticised for watering down the scheme, which originally envisaged that every Dalit would be benefited by the scheme. Several MLAs are upset that this anger will snowball into huge anti-incumbency by the time elections are announced.
