US Apologies For Vandalization Of Gandhi Statue

The ongoing protests in the USA took a violent turn as some unidentified men vandalized the statue of Mahatma Gandhi outside the Indian Embassy in Washington DC.

The protests were triggered by the death of Africa American George Floyd who died while in the police custody. This resulted in anti-racism protests that gained support from various sections.

The Indian Embassy which is shocked by the statue getting vandalized filed a complaint with the US Department of State, local law enforcement agencies and the investigation is underway.

The investigation conducted by the department stated that the incident might have taken place on June 2nd and 3rd. While the people who vandalized the statue are unidentified.

US ambassador to India Kenneth Juster took to Twitter to say sorry for what happened and apologized for the disrespectful incident.

The statue which was vandalized was dedicated by the then Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the year 2000 when he visited the US. The then US President Bill Clinton was also present then.
