The latest buzz in the political circles of the Telugu states is that a powerful leader from the Eastern part of the country is planning to spread her wings in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. If highly placed sources are to be believed, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress boss Mamta Banejee is testing the waters in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. She has reportedly sent her emissaries several key political leaders and invited them to join the TMC.
Political pundits say that Mamta Banerjee is seeing a bigger role for herself in the 2024 elections. She is trying to emerge as the rallying force for all the anti-BJP politicians. She believes that the Congress would not be able to remain as an alternative to the BJP. It's spate of defections and defeats have made the party look very vulnerable. So, Trinamool wants to capitalise on this and expand itself in Telangana.
As part of the expansion, Mamta has sent her emissaries to Telangana, who in turn met several former MLAs and MPs who are looking for an opportunity. If reports are to be believed, some leaders have shown keen interest in TMC's proposal. Some reportedly told them that they would like to contest on TMC ticket, if the TRS refused them a party ticket to contest the 2023 elections.
Sources say that Mamta has already begun expanding her party in Tripura and Assam, where there is a significant member of Bengali speaking population and Mamta would find a ready reception. Similarly, the party has also got into its fold several leaders, including a former chief minister, into her fold. She is trying to expand into Gujarat and other states also.
