Why is senior YSRCP leader and sitting MLA of Chandragiri Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy looking quite smug and happy these days? Those watching Chittoor politics say that Chevireddy is happy over the candidate that the TDP is set to field against him. Sources say that the TDP has formally announced the name of its candidate from Chandragiri and thatâs music to Chevireddyâs ears.
During his recent visit to Chandragiri, TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh has made a scathing attack on Chevireddy and his family members. At the end of the tirade, he announced Puligurthi Nani as the TDP candidate for the 2024 assembly elections. Puligurthi Nani had taken on Chevireddy in 2019 too and ended up losing by over 45000 votes. Political observers say that Nani will meet the same fate if he contests against Chevireddy in 2024.
Chevireddy has worked quite hard and has proved his mettle. He is very popular among the voters of the constituency. Though some YSRCP leaders do not like him, they are unlikely to support Nani, who is quite unpopular. Chevireddy has carved a niche for himself during the covid period through his relief works and the distribution of Anandaiahâs ayurvedic medicine.
There were rumours that someone from the politically strong Galla family would contest the elections against Chevireddy. If that happened, Chevireddy would surely have a tough time. He would have had to sweat it out in the campaign. However, there is a general feeling that Nani is no match for Chevireddy in Chandragiri. Chevireddyâs supporters are now said to be in celebratory mood over the candidature of Nani.
