Among the many demands for new districts in AP is the demand from Narsipatnam in Vizag district. Interestingly the ruling YSRCP is taking the lead for the formation of a new district with Narsipatnam as the headquarters. Local MLA Petta Umashankar is actually leading the protests. He has held several meetings with his supporters and the general public and took up the issue.
Over 90 representations have so far been submitted to the district collector in the past three days demanding that Narsipatnam be declared as a new district with Narsipatnam town as the headquarters. In fact the local YSRCP leaders and activists are leading the fight for realizing the demand. The MLA is very active in holding consultations with the civil society organizations local institutions and organizations.
The MLA is said to have told the government that Narspatnam has a lot of vacant government land and that it could be used to develop infrastructure for the newly carved out district. He is also said to have told the officials and the government that by making Narsipatnam a district the government can develop the backward tribal-dominated and remote district.
Interestingly TDP senior leader former minister Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu is strangely silent on the issue. He has not spelt out his action plan. He has not reacted to the demand for making Narsipatnam a district. Sources say that being a senior leader Ayyanna Patrudu is adopting a wait and watch approach. The YSRCP is now watching the TDP moves on the issue.
