Eleven Indian nationals were found dead in Gudauri, a popular mountain resort in Georgia. Along with them, a Georgian citizen also lost their life in a tragic incident.
According to reports, the deceased were employees of an Indian restaurant located at the Gudauri Ski Resort nestled in the Caucasus Mountains near Georgia’s border with Russia. The victims were discovered on the second floor of the restaurant.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the deaths were caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. Authorities stated that an oil-powered generator was used after the building experienced a power outage. It is believed that a carbon monoxide leak from the generator led to the fatalities. Police ruled out violence as there were no signs of foul play classifying the incident as an accident.
Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation under Article 116 of the Criminal Code, which deals with negligent manslaughter. Forensic experts are examining the scene, and interviews with related individuals are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
