A recent discussion on social media has caught the attention of many working professionals in India. The topic is about salary comparison between Bengaluru and London. The discussion was started by Vaibhav Agarwal who works as a software engineer at Google in Bengaluru.

Vaibhav explained that looking at salaries only through currency conversion does not show the real picture. He said purchasing power parity is more important. This method compares what people can actually buy with their income in different places.

According to him a salary of forty five lakh rupees per year in Bengaluru gives around two point seven lakh rupees per month in hand. With this income a person can live very comfortably. They can afford a good two bedroom flat in a gated community. They can hire domestic help and order food easily using apps. Travel by cabs is also affordable. He said people earning at this level in India are among the top one percent and enjoy many comforts that save time and energy.

Vaibhav then compared this with a salary of one hundred eight thousand pounds per year in London. After tax a person may get around six thousand one hundred pounds per month. From this a large part goes to rent. Even a basic one bedroom apartment can cost more than two thousand pounds every month. After paying rent and other bills people often manage cooking and cleaning by themselves. He explained that life in London is comfortable but not luxurious.

Vaibhav shared a simple conclusion. He said Bengaluru is better for luxury and comfort. London is better for global exposure with a clean environment and stronger currency. His statement connected with many people online.

Some users agreed and said purchasing power parity is often ignored in salary discussions. Others felt that earning a high salary in India is harder than getting a similar role abroad. A few people added that moving overseas is not only about money. They value quality of life, education, safety and personal growth.
