Glass Tumbler: No Relief To Janasena As Of Now!
Janasena moved the Court seeking orders to make the Glass Tumbler a common symbol.
Janasena moved the Court seeking orders to make the Glass Tumbler a common symbol. However, the party did not get a relief. The EC placed its arguments in the court saying that Glass Tumbler was allocated to independents as it is a free symbol. The Body said that the decision was taken as per the rules.
The EC’s version is that the unrecognised parties won't have a common symbol and the symbol would be a free symbol in seats where the concerned parties are not contesting. The same was done in the episode.
The EC said that Glass Tumbler is not allocated to others in 21 Assembly segments and 2 MP segments where Janasena is contesting. This can be seen as a slight relief. Janasena is contesting in the Machilipatnam and Kakinada MP segments. Though Janasena is not contesting the MLA segments under the two MP seats, Glass Tumbler will not be allocated to others.
While this can be seen as a relief. Glass Tumbler would be allocated to any candidate in other seats. Janasena has a few arguments here. The party said that it might not have been recognised but it is in alliance with two parties and asked how the symbol can be allocated to others in the other seats.
However, the High Court directed the party to file another petition. Janasena’s petition was disposed of. The independents are happy with the Glass Tumbler symbol as they feel they would get at least 3,000 votes without campaigning. Glass Tumbler was allocated to independent candidates in Mangalagiri where Nara Lokesh is contesting, Chandrababu(Kuppam), Sujana Chowdary(Vijayawada West), Atchannaidu(Tekkali), and Balakrishna(Hindupur).
With this, many say that a possible vote split might hinder the alliance. But EC went ahead with the rule position. The Election body said that there is no other conspiracy in this and it will consider the unrecognized parties as independents. However many say that Janasena got a privilege here. If a party won't get the required percent of votes under the symbol, then they won't be allocated the same symbol. They will be given a new symbol.
However, the EC has been allocating the same symbol to Janasena since 2019. The same happened in AP Local Body polls and Telangana Assembly polls too. Despite this, the EC refused to allocate the Glass Tumbler as the common symbol citing the rules.
New parties contest all the seats for the symbol and show their capabilities. When Janasena contested the maiden elections in 2019, it contested only 137 out of 175 seats. The party had an alliance back then too.
When Anna NTR floated the TDP in 1983, he allocated two seats for Sanjay Vichar Manch. The party contested 292 out of 294 seats in the combined state. Observers say that Janasena not getting the symbols is its own mistake and there is no conspiracy behind this.
