Infosys Founder's Comments Starts Debate On Working Hours!
Infosys founder Narayana Murthy said that youth should work for around 70 hours a week to be competitive with other nations
Infosys, the brainchild of founder Narayana Murthy is one of the major tech giants based in India. To give an example of what the company has achieved, it is ranked among TIME Magazine's top 100 'World's Best Companies 2023'. It is the only Indian company to feature on the list.
The place where Infosys is placed right now speaks volumes about his vision for his company. He has vast experience in the field as his company has been performing well since its inception for the past few decades.
Now the comments made by Infosys founder Narayana Murthy started a new debate on working hours. In a recent interview, he said that youth plays a big role in the development of the nation and hence they should work for more hours like other countries.
Citing the examples of Japan and Germany Narayana Murthy said that the productivity increased as youth worked for extra hours and youth here should also do the same.
Infosys founder Narayana Murthy said that youth should work for around 70 hours a week to be competitive with other nations. On average the working hours in India is around 40 hours. What he is advocating is increasing the working hours by almost twice.
But the proposal he made did not go well with many as the employees asked what is the need to increase their work hours. They raise the question of the paychecks. They ask will their salaries be increased if their working hours were increased as he said.
The main complaint techies have with the work life is that they won't get to spend more time with their families. Usually, they have odd working hours as the majority of tech companies work on US timings. They usually have night shifts. With the Infoysys founder saying work hours should be increased, they raise the concern that they might miss the time they spend with families.
