2000 Per Hour in U.S.: How Much In India?

The new administration in the New York City has been bringing several formative changes to the employment index and also the general administration of the city at the fundamental level. A big announcement has now been made regarding the minimum wage and here’s a look into the same.
The U.S. state of New York has recently introduced a minimum pay rule for grocery delivery workers. Under this rule, apps must pay their workers at least $21.44 per hour, which is about ₹2,000, not including tips.
This ensures that delivery workers have a stable income, regardless of the number of orders they complete. It also provides some financial security in a job that is usually considered part of the gig economy, where earnings can otherwise be unpredictable.
In India, the situation is very different. Delivery workers are mostly paid per order, earning between ₹15 and ₹40 for each delivery. There is no fixed hourly minimum, so income varies widely.
A worker’s earnings depend on factors such as distance, demand, and the incentive schemes offered by the apps. On busy days, a worker may earn well, but on slow days, income can be very low.
This contrast highlights the differences in labor protections between countries. While New York’s law guarantees a minimum hourly wage and helps workers plan their finances, many delivery workers in India face uncertainty every day.
The lack of guaranteed wages means they often have to work long hours just to make a decent income. The gap shows how much regulation can impact worker security and overall livelihood.
