One Passenger Died and 30 Hurt Due to Severe Turbulence on Flight
A passenger died and 30 others were injured due to severe turbulence on a flight from London to Singapore.
In a rare and tragic incident, a passenger died and 30 others were injured due to severe turbulence on a flight from London to Singapore. Singapore Airlines confirmed the death.
The turbulence occurred on Singapore Airlines flight SQ321, which departed from Heathrow Airport in London on Monday, bound for Singapore. The Boeing 777-300 ER, carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, encountered turbulence en route and was diverted to Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The plane landed at 3:45 PM local time on Tuesday.
Singapore Airlines expressed condolences to the deceased passenger's family and stated, "We can confirm that there are injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300 ER. Our priority is to provide all possible assistance to the passengers and crew. We are collaborating with Thai authorities to ensure medical help and are sending a team to Bangkok for further support."
Experts note that such injuries typically occur when passengers are not wearing seatbelts and there is no advanced warning from the pilot due to a lack of turbulence indication from weather radar. Without warning, passengers can be thrown around, leading to injuries.
This incident is reminiscent of another turbulence-related event in May last year, when an Air India flight from Delhi to Sydney also saw several passengers injured.
