The much-awaited general elections in the UK were concluded recently and the results were out the other day. The Labour Party which has been away from power for over a decade made a historic comeback and won the elections one-sidedly. It got almost a third majority with 412 seats out of 650 seats.

The results are significant to India and Indians as 26 MPs were elected to the House. As many as 26 people of Indian origin were elected as MPs including former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The MPs are from both ruling and opposition parties while the majority are from the ruling Labour party.

Let us start the list with Rishi Sunak. The Indian-origin leader became a sensation after becoming the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom when the country was dealing with a few issues. Though his party lost the polls he was elected to the House and he retained his seat.

Suella Braverman is a three-time MP in the United Kingdom. She hit the headlines earlier with her fallout with Rishi Sunak which led to her suspension. When she alleged the Police of bias she was sacked by Rishi Sunak last year.

Priti Patel is an MP whose career is around 15 years long. She became the MP for the first time back in 2010. She had to resign as the MP due to shocking allegations. Now she made a big comeback.

Claire Coutinho, Gagan Mohindra, Shivani Raja, Seema Malhotra, Valerie Vaz, Lisa Nandy, Preet Kaur Gill, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, Navendu Mishra, Nadia Whittome, Jas Athwal, Baggy Shanker, Satvir Kaur, Harpreet Uppal, Warinder Juss, Gurinder Josan, Kanishka Narayan, Sonia Kumar, Sureena Brackenbridge, Kirith Entwistle, Jeevun Sandher, Sojan Joseph and Munira Wilson are the other MPs of Indian origin.
