A.R. Rahman's Documentary to Premiere at IFFM

Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman's latest documentary film, "Headhunting to Beatboxing," is set to have its world premiere at the prestigious Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) in 2024. The film, directed by Rohit Gupta, marks Rahman's second major production venture after the critically acclaimed "99 Songs" which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival in 2019.

 

"Headhunting to Beatboxing" takes audiences on an immersive and enlightening musical anthropological odyssey, exploring the fascinating journey of rhythm and sound in Nagaland. The documentary traces the evolution of music across cultures, tribes, and generations, from the ancient traditions of headhunting tribes to the musical renaissance in the state.

Speaking about the film's premiere at IFFM, Rahman expressed his excitement, stating, "The film is very special to us, as it throws light on the beautiful state of Nagaland and highlights the rich cultural and musical history it contains." The film is also competing for the best documentary film award at the festival.

Director Rohit Gupta shared his enthusiasm, saying, "We are honoured to be selected in competition at IFFM. I feel the narrative holds global relevance, along with the incredible healing power of music. The film has been painstakingly made over five years, and I am excited to see the audience's reactions to it and for them to explore the rich cultural and musical tapestry of Nagaland." With its world premiere at IFFM 2024, "Headhunting to Beatboxing" promises to captivate audiences and shed light on the untold stories of Nagaland's musical heritage.
