When we talk about air pollution and deaths caused by air pollution in Indian cities, national capital Delhi, financial capital Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Lucknow flashes in our mind.
But the reality has something else to say. In last year, i.e, 2020 alone, Hyderabad has reported not less than 11,000 deaths due to air pollution. Air pollution has also resulted in an economic loss worth Rs 11,637 crore.
The shocking data was released by the Greenpeace Southeast Asia Analysis of IQAir data. The report titled âCost to economy due to air pollution 2021â aimed at analysing the impact of air pollution in major cities in the world.
The report has stressed the impact of PM 2.5 matter in the cities. The matter is mainly found in smoke and haze which impacts heart and respiratory disease, which in turn results in rising in deaths.
The Greenpeace Southeast Asia Analysis has carried out the study in six Indian cities-Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Lucknow.
The studay has also stated that the situation was under control in these six cities with the nationwide lockdown imposed in the country with the Covid-19 outbreak.
Pollutants emitted by motorist vehicles include carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2) is also one more area of concern. The report has shed light on the importance of focusing on improving the green cover.
