The Andhra Pradesh Government and Amaravati Capital saga is a never-ending story. After facing many shocks, the government suffered a severe hammer blow, when the High Court made it clear that capital should come in that region and the basic facilities should be arranged in one month.
Now the Andhra Pradesh government is likely to face the heat from the High Court on the same issue. Finding fault with the government for not implementing the Court orders, Amaravati Farmers have moved the High Court citing contempt of court charges. Saying that no work was started in Amaravati, the petitioners alleged that it is nothing but sheer negligence.
This is not like any other petition. The Amaravati farmers have mentioned key names as Defendants in the case and the list includes Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as well. Alleging that they are intentionally not developing the region, the farmers knocked on the doors of the High Court.
With this, we can say one thing the farmers are ready to take any step to get the proposed Amaravati developed as a capital region. They also requested the court to dismiss the affidavit filed by the government to seek some more time to develop the capital city.
The petition sees the following names as defendants in the matter-Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma, JAD Special CS Jawahar Reddy, V.Sunitha(The Then Judiciary Secretary), Assembly Secretary P.Balakrishnamacharyulu. Principal secretary (transport, roads, and buildings) M.T. Krishna Babu, principal secretary to Finance, SS Rawat, Special Chief Secretary (municipal administration and urban development) Y. Srilakshmi, Botsa Satyanarayana and Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy.
On the other hand, the government is also adamant about its stand to have three capitals. Even after the High Court gave orders to develop the capital region, the Andhra Pradesh government made it clear that it is bound to decentralization of development. Many Ministers including Botsa Satyanarayana said the state can only be developed with three capitals.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took a few steps further and said that the judiciary is acting beyond its limits and asked what's the use of elected governments when it cannot enact a law to decide where the capital city should come.
