Warning the world that the Coronavirus fear is not over yet, another variant of the virus 'Omicron' emerged recently which is making the countries stand on their toes to be more cautious and alert. Touted to be the dangerous and highly contagious variant of the pandemic so far, Omicron is slowly spreading its wings after it was found in South Africa.
Taking a cue from other countries, India had announced a new set of rules and regulations for the passengers coming from other countries. The guidelines which will come into effect from the 1st of December were released by the Union Health Ministry on Sunday.
The guidelines say passengers coming from 'at-risk' countries should take the RT-PCR at the airports. Until the test reports are out, the passengers will not be allowed to travel further. If the reports come back negative, they will have to complete a seven-day home quarantine. The symptomatic patients will also be asked to follow a quarantine period, followed by a treatment for the condition at a hospital facility.
If the reports come back positive, then the samples and the passengers will be sent to the INSACOG laboratory facility and the isolation center respectively to follow the protocol. While the samples would be tested to get more information, the passengers will be put under medical treatment.
People who came in contact with the Covid positive people will be asked to be under quarantine. The condition of the close contacts will be closely observed by the authorities.
The Omicron variant which was termed as the variant of the concern by the World Health Organisation (WHO) had spread to a lot of countries. As a piece of good news, the variant did not make its way to the country so far. But we cannot take the variant lightly.
Besides this, the Union Health Ministry also said, passengers coming from other than at-risk countries should have to produce the travel history of the last 14 days to land in India. On top of this, the Covid-19 RT-PCR test which declared the passenger negative of the virus should also be uploaded. The test should be conducted 72 hours before the travel.
