Kollywood actor Suriya who is known for his impeccable acting skills had impressed one and all with the courtroom drama Jai Bhim. After winning many applauses and appreciation, the film was selected for the Oscars but lost the race by a narrow margin. Along with the appreciation, the Suriya starrer also attracted a few controversies.

As a big controversy, the Vanniyar community has been accusing the makers of showing their community in the wrong way. After filing many complaints and approaching the court, the police department was directed by a local court to book the makers for hurting the sentiments of the community.

However, the police did not book an FIR against the makers of Jai Bhim. Not happy with this, Rudra Vanniyar Sena had knocked on the doors of the district magistrate court on the same issue. The petition was filed by K Santosh, of the Vanniyar Sena against the actor and director of the film.

After getting directives from the court, the Police reportedly booked Suriya and director TJ Gnanavel for reportedly showing the Vanniyar community in the wrong way under section 295A of the Indian Penal Code. Both actor and director are yet to respond to the alleged development.

The Jai Bhim film showed how making a film on real incidents can be tricky. Despite showing everyone rightly, the bad police were shown as Vanniyar members while the original cop hails from some other community in reality. The Vanniyar community says that the cop belongs to some other community, but he was shown as a member of the Vanniyar community.

No one knows why the identity of the cop was not taken rightly despite the story being based on real incidents. The judge role and others were given the current names, but the wrong cop who harassed and tortured people from the marginalized community was shown as a Vanniyar community.

Jai Bhim traces the story of an activist lawyer, who takes up the missing case of a tribal man. After digging deeper, it is found that the tribal man is killed in police custody. Jai Bhim was bankrolled by Jyothika and Suriya under the 2D Entertainment banner.
