Supreme Court Today delivered a judgement in favour of Professor Kancha Ilaiah during the hearing of the petition against his book 'Samajika Smugglerlu Komatollu'. The Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Deepak Mishra refused to ban the controversial book saying such a verdict is like curtailing the freedom of expression.
Arya Vysya Association Leader & Advocate Ramanjaneyulu moved a petition in Supreme Court seeking ban on the book penned by Kancha Ilaiah. However, Supreme Court dismissed the petition citing freedom of expression. 'We can't ban a book just because it has stirred a controversy. Writers need to behave responsibly and know where to draw the line,' says the Apex Court.
Kancha Ilaiah welcomed the Supreme Court. He went on to say 'Komatollu' should feel proud of the fact that a book is being written on them. 'Imposing a ban on a book is nothing but denying freedom of expression,' he told.
