One of the most problematic development regarding Andhra Pradesh capital is the blatant misuse of the same by the previous YCP government. The Jagan government had played with the capital prospect of Amaravati in the name of three capitals proposal and messed up the whole operation.
And finally, we are witnessing some significant legal procedure regarding Amaravati as the resolution to name Amaravati as the permanent capital has been approved in the parliament today.
But this brings us back to the question that is lingering in the minds of common public on whether YCP can potentially change Amaravati capital in the future in case they come back to power.
TDP MP Krishna Devarayulu indirectly reacted on this matter as he said “Amaravati will continue to be the permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh. The legislation in the Parliament is a legally binding procedure, which would enhance the AP reorganisation act. Any alterations in the future can be made only with the approval of the Parliament.”
This would essentially mean that the Parliament would legislate Amaravati as the solitary capital, and in case any changes are to be made to this in the future, the entire process will have to be repeated in the Parliament. This would be a tough challenge for YCP in case they come back to power as repeating this process in the Parliament is not an easy task.
The crucial thing that happened in the past while YCP started on three capitals proposal is that there was no legal precedent to the same. But things have changed it now as Amravati is the solitary capital, and if this needs to be changed by YCP or any other government, they will have to go back to the Parliament and get full approval all over again.
