A video from Germany has gone viral after Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir was briefly questioned by security staff at a major global event in Munich. The incident happened when he arrived to attend the Munich Security Conference, one of the world’s most important meetings on global security and peace.
Asim Munir who holds the rank of Field Marshal reached Munich along with his official team. While entering the conference venue, a security officer noticed that Munir’s identity card was not clearly visible. The officer politely tapped on his badge and asked him to turn the ID card around so it could be seen properly. This moment was captured on video and quickly spread across social media platforms.
Although the situation was resolved within seconds and Munir was allowed to proceed, the video attracted wide attention. Many users online discussed how security rules are strictly followed at international events, regardless of a person’s position or power.
At the same time, protests were taking place outside the conference venue. A Germany-based Sindhi political group, Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz, strongly opposed Asim Munir’s participation in the conference. Members of the group raised slogans and displayed placards accusing the Pakistan Army of human rights violations.
The group’s chairman, Shafi Burfat, issued a formal statement expressing serious concern over Munir being invited to such a high-profile global forum. The statement was addressed to international bodies including the United Nations, the European Union, and the German government. Burfat described Munir’s presence as “deeply troubling” and urged world leaders to take notice of alleged human rights issues in Pakistan.
The Munich Security Conference is held every year and brings together global leaders, diplomats, defence officials, and policy experts. Discussions at the event focus on international peace, security challenges, and conflict resolution. Because of its global importance, participation in the conference often attracts both attention and criticism.
