One of the many implementations made by the United States, president Donald Trump is the US birthright amendment act. While this might be projected as a detrimental move to the international immigration population, here is what Indian Hindu community has about the same.

A US based Hindu organisation has come out in support of birthright citizenship in the United States, amid an ongoing legal battle over immigration policies.

The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) has joined dozens of religious groups urging the Supreme Court of the United States to protect the constitutional right that grants citizenship to anyone born on American soil.

According to the organisation, birthright citizenship is clearly guaranteed under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution. The group filed a legal brief along with 57 faith based organisations in a case currently being reviewed by the Supreme Court.

The issue gained attention after the administration of Donald Trump issued an executive order in January 2025 seeking to restrict birthright citizenship for children born to immigrants who are in the country temporarily or without legal status. This move triggered legal challenges and raised concerns among immigrant communities across the US.

In its submission, the Hindu American Foundation argued that the issue is not only constitutional but also rooted in moral and religious values. The group said Hindu teachings promote the idea that the entire world is one family and that societies should welcome newcomers.

The organisation also warned that limiting birthright citizenship could create uncertainty for immigrant families and weaken religious diversity in the United States. It noted that a large percentage of Hindu Americans are immigrants, making the issue particularly significant for the community.
