Responsibility of an MLA to ensure the overall progress of his constituency and also raising crucial points in the assembly session in the interest of his constituency people. But now something unexpected has happened as the Karnataka government has announced that each MLA will be getting 3 IPL tickets from RCB.
In a development that has stirred debate in Karnataka’s political and sporting circles, D. K. Shivakumar announced that every MLA in the state will receive three complimentary tickets for Indian Premier League matches held in Bengaluru. The decision follows discussions between the state government, the Karnataka State Cricket Association, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister, the arrangement will apply to games hosted at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Indian Premier League season. In addition to the IPL allocation, legislators are also expected to receive two tickets each for international matches played at the same venue.
The issue gained attention after several MLAs expressed dissatisfaction over the difficulty in securing tickets despite the stadium standing on government leased land. Some legislators reportedly argued that elected representatives should not be made to stand in queues and sought a fixed quota of passes for major matches.
The announcement has triggered mixed reactions. Supporters describe it as a customary privilege extended to public representatives in many states, while critics view it as an example of unnecessary VIP culture at a time when ordinary fans struggle to access tickets. The move has now become a talking point across political discussions and social media conversations in Karnataka.
