The 20-20 World Cup is going to start in a couple of weeks from now as it is scheduled for February 7. In the meanwhile, the ICC has communicated that Bangladesh has been replaced with Scotland in this T20 World Cup as Bangladesh refused to travel to India for their games.
Uncertainty continues to cloud the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup as Pakistan’s participation now appears doubtful, adding to the growing concerns following Bangladesh’s decision not to take part.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi has stated that the PCB will take a final call only after consultations with the Pakistan government, making it clear that the board will strictly follow official instructions. The decision is expected after discussions once the Prime Minister returns, and until then, Pakistan’s participation remains on hold.
Naqvi strongly criticised the International Cricket Council, accusing it of adopting double standards in handling sensitive international issues. He referred to Bangladesh being effectively removed after refusing to play matches in India, calling the decision unjust and openly backing Bangladesh’s stance.
According to Naqvi, such actions undermine trust in global cricket governance and raise serious questions about fairness and consistency in decision making.
With Bangladesh already unlikely to feature in the tournament and Pakistan now reconsidering its involvement, concerns are mounting over the overall stability and credibility of the event.
The 2026 T20 World Cup is co hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with Pakistan’s matches scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka as part of a neutral venue arrangement. As per the current schedule, Pakistan are set to face the Netherlands in the opener on February 7 and arch rivals India on February 15, both in Colombo. However, these fixtures now hinge on political and administrative clearances rather than cricket alone.
