The Donald Trump administration in the United States has started to largely cut down on the issuance of new visas. Things are starting to get very depressing for the Indian Thailand that has been aspiring to travel to the United States for employment opportunities.

The United States has sharply increased visa cancellations in 2025 as part of a tougher immigration enforcement drive. According to officials, about 85000 visas have been revoked since January, more than twice the figure recorded during the same period last year.

The action covers all categories of visas, including tourist, work, business and student visas. More than 8000 student visas alone have been cancelled.

State Department officials said nearly half of these revocations were linked to criminal offences such as drunk driving, assault, theft and other violations that surfaced after visas were issued.

The government has adopted a policy of continuous vetting, which means visa holders are no longer cleared once at the time of approval but are monitored throughout their stay in the country.

Under this approach, authorities are reviewing around 55 million valid visa holders for issues such as criminal activity, overstaying, security concerns or suspected links to extremist activities. Visas have also been revoked in cases where officials believe individuals supported or promoted activities considered a threat to US national security.

The administration has defended the move, saying it is aimed at strengthening public safety and protecting national interests. However, the large scale cancellations have created anxiety among immigrants and international students, as visas can now be withdrawn at any stage if new information or concerns emerge.
