How Did Sankalp Reddy's Hindi Film 'IB 71' Turn Out?

Sankalp Reddy is a name that reverberated across the Telugu film industry when 'Ghazi' was released back in 2017. The way he presented the never-seen-before submarine movie within a limited budget has won the appreciation of many people across the country. Rana scored a good hit and ended up in decent profits. He was considered as the next big thing.

After making a film like 'Ghazi', Sankalp decided to explore outer space and made a movie titled 'Antariksham' starring Varun Tej, Aditi Rao Hydari, Satyadev, Lavanya Tripathi and others. However, this movie failed to impress the viewers like 'Ghazi' and it put breaks on Sankalp's career. His attempt to narrate a complicated script in an elaborate manner did not work out and it ended up being a cost failure as well.

He recently arrived with 'IB 71' which had Vidyut Jamwal playing the lead. The 'Thuppaki' actor produced this film too. In 1971, Intelligence Bureau officer Dev predicts the plan of the Pakistan army and comes up with a 10-day mission with 30 agents. What happens in the mission forms the crux of the story. Sankalp has showed everyone what happened before 'Ghazi' incident took place. The entire first half was spent on setting up the platform and establishing the conflict point.

This led to the narration becoming way too slow and the audience become restless. Though the pre-interval sequences evoke some patriotism, the makers failed to use it perfectly and mix it well with the movie's proceedings. 'IB 71' faltered in that aspect and the required drama went missing which is why the audience does not feel a lot of emotional connection. Had Sankalp Reddy written the film more tightly, it would have been a classic like 'Raazi', 'Ghazi', 'Phantom', 'Parmanu' and others.
