The local body election commencement in Andhra Pradesh has become a much-talked-issue with the state government and the State Election Commissioner (SEC) not ready to take a back step.
The issue which went through many twists and turns took one more interesting turn after the Andhra Pradesh High Court issued sensational orders over the election commencement.
The High Court said, within three days from now, three Principal Secretary rank officials should meet SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar and explain the government's concerns over not going for polls given the Covid-19 situation.
Though the Court said, the officers should meet the State Election Commission within three days from now, the officers will be informed by Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar on where to meet him.
While issuing orders, the High Court also said, if the meeting between State Election Commissioner (SEC) and the government officials cannot settle the issues, it will hear the arguments later.
While, State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar is very firm on the decision to conduct the elections in February, next year, Andhra Pradesh is in favor of postponing the election date citing the Covid-19 outbreak.
Counsel who appeared before the High Court on the behalf of the state government told the court that, the vaccine to cure the Covid-19 is expected to be rolled out in two to three months and the government is busy with making arrangements for the vaccination program.
