Sundarapu Durgaprasad set himself on fire on Wednesday complaining injustice to his daughter by District Selection Committee (DSC) during the selection of teachers based on nativity after bifurcation of the state. This incident happened in Unguturu of Chebrolu mandal, West Godavari.
Nikhila (D/O Sundarapu Durgaprasad) was denied permission to attend DSC Examination last year citing nativity issue. She claims to have studied only 5 years in Hyderabad and rest of her studies happened either in Unguturu or Tadepalligudem. "If both AP & Telangana Governments treat me as non-local, how can I support my family which is in financial crisis," she questioned.
Durgaprasad who works in a small hotel went into depression upon coming to know about how the nativity issue affected the future of his daughter and attempted suicide by pouring kerosene. He alleges State Government never bothered to resolve the issue despite several representations to CM, Education Minister and Officials. He opined that Special Status to AP will resolve such employment issues.
Doctors said Durgaprasad suffered 30 burns on lower part of the body. His condition is said to be stable for now.
