Power Demand Reaches Peak, says Power Ministry

Update: 2022-06-10 10:34 GMT
India has been seeing heat waves in various regions. The official data says that many places like the national capital Delhi recorded the highest temperature in recent years. As a result of the high temperature which is soaring, the demand for power supply has also been increasing.

All these issues triggered a shortage in coal levels at various power generation stations. Not just local establishments, but even big establishments are unable to get coal supply to match the needs. The low-level coal reserves in various plants prompted the refining corporation Coal India Limited (CIL) to gather coal reserves. The body is looking at importing coal from other nations.

When the efforts to import coal in large volumes are underway, the demand for power in India reached its peak point. This is not what experts said. The Ministry of Power took to the microblogging site Twitter to say that the power demand had peaked in the country.

"India's Electricity Demand Records a New High! The All India electricity demand met on 9th June 2022 clocked at an all time high of 210793 MW at 1500 hours," the Power Ministry said in a tweet from its official handle. "On 8th June 2022, the All India #energyconsumption also clocked a record 4712 MU," it said in another tweet.

The high temperature, humidity levels, and the increase in power consumption are co-related. As the temperature goes up, the power consumption and demand go up simultaneously. The same happened. The same is the case in many states no matter what their economical status is.

With the temperature reaching an all-time high, people used electronics like ACs and Coolers more and their electricity bills and power demand increased. Even small families paid current bills in thousands with the high power consumption. While people faced issues with the power bills, the coal power stations saw a decline in their coal reserves.

It has to be mentioned here that people across the states faced issues with the power crisis. While a few states have managed to bring the situation under control, a few of them failed to do so, making people face power cuts despite high electricity bills.
