Australian cricketer Shane Warne has landed in controversy after referring to cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara as "Steve" and saying that the Indian cricketer name is too hard to pronounce.
Warne has drawn the anger of cricket fans and he has been accused of casual racism for resisting to learn his colleague, Pujara's actual name.
While speaking about Pujara on air after the match between India and Australia Warne casually referred Pujara as "Steve". As per reports, Warne also went on to talk with the commentators that Pujara's name was quite tricky to pronounce. Hence, he called him Steve, which was the nickname used for Pujara by his former Yorkshire teammates.
Warne's comments come amid an irate debate about racism by the players and workers at English club Yorkshire. On December 5, former Yorkshire captain Azeem Rafiq had complained against the English team after claiming harassment and discrimination on the grounds of race.
