The controversial GO No. 1 introduced by the Andhra Pradesh government created an uproar in the state. The opposition parties alleged that the Government Order was brought to restrict the meetings and events of the opposition. Even the Communist parties supported the opposition and alleged that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is targeting them.
The issue took a big turn now. The countryâs top court, the Supreme Court, said that it cannot interfere in the issue and urged the Andhra Pradesh High Court to hear the petition. The petition was heard by the Apex Court on Friday.
Disposing of the matter the Supreme Court said that the issue will be heard by the High Court. Having said that, the Apex Court urged the bench of the High Court led by the Chief Justice to hear the plea on the 23rd of this month.
The senior lawyer representing the Andhra Pradesh government said that the matter was posted before the Division Bench and it cannot be taken during the vacation. Stressing on this the Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha asked the High Court to hear the petition.
Earlier the High Court of Andhra Pradesh stayed the controversial GO No. 1 hearing a petition. But the state government moved the Supreme Court to challenge the orders of the High Court. CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna filed a PIL in the AP high court on the Government Order. Now the issue will be heard by the High Court only.
The GO No. 1 (banning rallies and meetings on public roads and highways) was issued by the AP government after two stampede-like situations were reported at the massive meetings held by the opposition Telugu Desam Party.
Alleging that the TDP did not take the required measures to hold the meetings the ruling party gave the order. The Government Order says that public meetings and rallies cannot be held in congested places. Big areas should be picked for the events.
The controversial Government Order is said to have hit the entertainment world too as the events of Nandamuri Balakrishna's Veera Simha Reddy and Chiranjeeviâs Waltair Veerayya were shifted from the originally fixed venues.
