Where Telugu States Stand In Farmers Suicide Index

Update: 2021-10-30 05:19 GMT
Farmers are an integral part of our society and we cannot imagine the country without them. Due to their hard work we are able to have food. Despite feeding the country, farmers won't get the required importance. Farmers' suicide is one burning issue that has to be addressed.

A lot of reasons like growing burden of debts, bad quality of seeds, lack of support from the government force the farmers to take the extreme step leaving their families in deep troubles.

The Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India (ADSI) that records the farmers' suicides in various states and ranks the states in terms of farmers' suicide had released its recent report and the rankings the Telugu States, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana got is a big surprise.

After a detailed survey, the ADSI had allocated third and fourth position for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Telangana being ranked fourth position despite the state progressing and attracting big investments is a big matter of concern.

The survey had shed light into the matter that quite contrary to what the respective governments say, farmers are not receiving the benefits of the schemes brought by the government and a dedicated mechanism should be brought to make sure that the farmers receive the help.

The report was compiled by the data gathered by the firm in various states in 2020. The previous year, as many as 5,567 farmers took the extreme step and breathed their last. Maharashtra recorded the highest number of farmers' suicide with 2,567 suicides.

On the other hand, the BJP ruled Karnataka stood at the second position with 1072 farmer suicides, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with 563 and 466 suicides.

These numbers tell us the serious gap between the schemes and the beneficiaries receiving the fruits of the same. If not addressed, the issue cannot be sorted out.

Compared to the other states, Telangana is in some trouble as the state was given fourth position in the previous edition too. However, Telangana saw less deaths among farmers in 2020 compared to 2019. In 2020 419 farmers lost their lives while 499 farmers lost their lives in 2019
