As one more feather in his illustrious cap, Rajinikanth will be honoured with the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar announced the same on his Twitter account.
"Happy to announce Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2020 to one of the greatest actors in history of Indian cinema Rajnikant ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic," the Minister tweeted.
Dadasaheb Award was established in 1969 and the award comes under the category of National Film Awards. The annual award is the awards given to the members of the film fraternity.
Overall, Rajinikanth will be the 12th Film Celebrity from the Southern Film Industry to get the award. Earlier, Kannada Kantirava Dr. S. Rajkumar, Akkineni Nageshwar Rao, and K Balachander.
Thalaivar made an impressive debut with Apoorva Ragangal helmed by ace director K Balachander in 1975. Rajinikanth often calls the director his guru. Since then, he went on to establish himself as a leading face in the industry.
